I often think that the Asians appreciate the need for greenspaces in planning communities and high rises more so than Americans do at times. I love also how "exit" is more dramatically expressed as "way out!". Do they actually make baguettes at Paris Baguette?

2) Have you been drinking bubble tea? To me it's an odd drink, but I have to go to a very Korean neighborhood to pick up my subway train and there is a bubble tea show every other door. I dislike it but I am not partial to tapioca beads.

3) Aunt Nikki would love to take a road trip to RI and entertain the cherubs but she knows that Karen actually wants chores to get done and that it not my strength. I would have them resting and playing and doing stuff that is, um, fun. Because she is shocked that anyone would think that unexpected time off from school should be used for anything else.Hazeleyeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09611279322370728940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551977354338403876.post-47876426712000578682011-09-02T00:04:33.803+01:002011-09-02T00:04:33.803+01:00@Karen: Hope items are getting crossed off the li...@Karen: Hope items are getting crossed off the list and kids are being kept amused. Any dates yet for their schools opening?

@Amanda: Thanks for stopping by! I took your excellent advice yesterday with some friends and all 5 of us - while initially highly skeptical - gave the patbingsu an enthusiastic thumbs up. As far as the spam goes, someone told me that it was introduced by the US troops during the Korean War/Conflict and I guess it never left, but it's definitely the last thing I would have expected in Asia. The first time I got a mouthful of it in a piece of gimbap, I was shocked.MsCarolinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03623997911568143459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551977354338403876.post-21556661654166258792011-08-30T12:04:42.837+01:002011-08-30T12:04:42.837+01:00Ahh.. the serenity of Paris Baguette is a tried an...Ahh.. the serenity of Paris Baguette is a tried and true friend for me as well but trust me, the sherbet (patbingsu) is the only thing to beat flinging yourself into those mini waterfalls...I'm hooked on them - they are so refreshing and the good thing is they are made to share so find an accomplice and dig in..and its 90% ice, what could possibly go wrong? It can't be worse for you than spam.. what is it with all the spam? its even cropping up now in display boxes and gift boxes these daysAmandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01501492002229436952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551977354338403876.post-57935776882049090562011-08-30T03:18:56.847+01:002011-08-30T03:18:56.847+01:00I'm giving them chores to keep them busy, I me...I'm giving them chores to keep them busy, I mean amused. Today they did hurricane clean up, which was very helpful. Also, still have summer reading to do. Neil was home today to crack the whip...not tomorrow so we will see how it goes. I think Aunt Nikki is a fabulous idea!
The Cape was fairly lightly hit so hopefully all is well with your family there. You are right about the classroom...feel better already after having made a list!
Exhausted, not used to life as a working woman! Off to bed!Karennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551977354338403876.post-83774312627170315092011-08-30T02:09:38.842+01:002011-08-30T02:09:38.842+01:00Karen, we've been married long enough for him ...Karen, we've been married long enough for him to have a pretty good idea of what works, but I have to say this is far beyond what I ever expected, and have been very thankful!
Can't believe they have closed school 'til further notice' - that doesn't sound good at all! Here in the news we are hearing mostly about VT and their flooding. My cousins in NJ took on a little water but their towns seem to have escaped the worst of it, although surrounding areas were hard hit. No word yet from my cousin in NH, aunt and uncle in ME, or the rest of the fam in MA. Mostly concerned about my cousin and her family on the Cape, in Falmouth, but haven't heard anything terrible so am hoping for the best.
Good luck getting your classroom together. It always seems impossible when you get started, but it always comes together in time! Will be praying for quick opening to schools in your town...what will the cherubs do to keep themselves amused? : ) Maybe it's time for Aunt Nikki to make a road trip to RI....MsCarolinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03623997911568143459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551977354338403876.post-60016648365003706602011-08-30T01:59:05.746+01:002011-08-30T01:59:05.746+01:00Nice place you picked to live! Like Wilma, donuts don't do anything for me, either. Not really a bakery, pastry sort. Gimbap would probably not do it for me, either.
All is well here, power is on for me but not for many in my community or the state. School in my town is closed until further notice. I almost stroked out when I heard that ominous phrase. Back to work for me however so am feeling overwhelmed at the prospect of actually opening a classroom in just 7 days. Have 10 students, 9 of them new to me. I do know them enough to know they will be a good group, though! Pray for school!!! It's so clean, the area around your apartment is quite beautiful and I'm getting very hungry looking at those restaurant pics. I'd give the doughnuts a go, even the green mouldy-looking ones!Trishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00119443727504215312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551977354338403876.post-64408366321829892032011-08-29T07:37:05.069+01:002011-08-29T07:37:05.069+01:00I'm not a big fan of the donuts, either, but t...I'm not a big fan of the donuts, either, but the smells are very appetizing. Paris Baguette, on the other hand, is sinfully delicious. I've never had makizushi, so I don't know how it compares, but I don't know if there's sesame oil in it or not. We watch the guy make it, and he basically just takes a sheet of seaweed and tops it with sticky rice and whatever else goes in there - I think it's hilarious that you can get cheese gimbap (plain American cheese bleh) and also Spam gimbap. Maybe it will turn out that gimbap is sesame-oil free and you can indulge?MsCarolinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03623997911568143459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551977354338403876.post-7389483163985033872011-08-29T07:19:16.657+01:002011-08-29T07:19:16.657+01:00It's very beautiful there. I have to say that ...It's very beautiful there. I have to say that none of the donuts look the least bit appetizing unless #2 on the top row is a plain cake donut. But then, I'm not big on donuts. LOL The gimbap looks like makizushi. I love it--it does NOT love me. Why does Asian food all have to be prepared in sesame oil?
